For us, great design isn’t just about how a kitchen looks on day one — it’s about how it lives, year after year. To show what true longevity means, we visited one of our long-term clients Joanne and Stewart. We photographed their 24-year-old DK Design Kitchen. More than two decades on, it still looks beautiful, functions perfectly, and continues to be the heart of a warm, lively home.
This kitchen has seen everything: the upbringing of two now-adult daughters, countless birthday parties, late-night drinks, weekday dinners, and years of easy, generous entertaining. This home has always opened its doors, and the kitchen has always been at the centre of it.
When the family bought the house 24 years ago, the wife — pregnant with their first child — broke down in tears at the poor condition of the place. But Jakob from DK Design Kitchens reassured her that by removing a few walls and opening the home to the backyard, the space could be transformed into a bright, functional family home. That vision became the first step in a long collaboration.
Over the years, DK Design Kitchens has continued to support the family as their needs evolved — designing wardrobes, updating the laundry, and helping the home grow with them. The original kitchen remains a testament to thoughtful design, high-quality craftsmanship, and the value of investing in spaces built to last.
